If you haven't been an unfortunate victim to trendy fad diets, you probably know someone who has. As people, we are addicted to the ‘quick fix’ strategy of getting what we want. In this world of instant gratification, no one wants to hear that hard work, time, and dedication are what you need to achieve your weight loss goals. It seems as though we will try absolutely anything except changing our lifestyles to try to get lean and slim.

Have you become diet obsessed? From the Atkins diet to the cabbage soup diet, the 24-Hour Liquid Diet, the Cayenne Pepper/Lemon Juice Diet, and more, these temporary fixes promise to change your life as well as your belt loop, but they seldom do. Any drastic change in your eating habits will cause a rapid drop in weight, but for exactly how long?

Why Diets Don’t Work.

How many diets do you have to go through before you realize that each time you embark on a new one, it’s like strapping yourself in to a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs? The weight you lose ends up coming back with a few more pounds to spare most of the time!

No one can continue to eat nothing but cabbage soup for the rest of their lives, and as soon as you stop the irrational diet plan, you gain the weight right back. It is unrealistic to think that you will be able to maintain the crazy meal plans that make up most fad diets for very long. As soon as you give up on the craze, the pounds are back before you know it.

The cycle of dieting and gaining weight causes you to feel like a failure and a disappointment, which makes you want to eat more. There are many comfort foods that will increase your serotonin levels, essentially cheering you up whenever you are upset about not being able to lose the weight that you want so desperately to lose. These foods are usually very starchy calorie-packed carbohydrates, which will cause you to gain weight.

Believing that there is some overnight miracle that will help you lose weight will just set you up for a fall.

The bottom line is that the only way to take off those pounds is to completely implement a change in lifestyle. You can either believe in fads or make an investment for forever. Your emotional attachment to food must change, and you have to start viewing food as fuel for your body.

If there is no nutritional benefit to your digestion of certain foods, you shouldn’t eat them. The real truth is that you need to be willing to make a total overhaul of your current lifestyle and begin to work on thinking long-term success instead of temporary solutions.
