1. For a natural way to lose weight, try and learn as much as you can about nutrition, this will help you keep focused on healthy options. Knowing about the nutritional value of food you eat can help you implement them into your weekly shop and more importantly, into your weight loss diet.

2. Always have breakfast before you go out, especially if you go shopping in the morning. There are two reasons for this; firstly, your body uses more calories in the morning, so eating a balanced breakfast is a must. Secondly, shopping while your stomach is empty can lead you to buy 'wrong' food- before you know it, your cravings take over.

3. Go to the supermarket once a week with a shopping list. Making regular visits throughout the week will only make you buy more food, food that you don't need, leading you to eat more.

4. Making a shopping list is one of the most important parts of shopping for successful weight loss. You must stick to the list- this is the only way to curb impulse buying of food that is hard to resist and that you don't need. The list is there to help you stay focused on losing weight with a healthy balanced diet. Look out for new recipes to try in advance and add any ingredients you need to your list. Trying new food ideas can help to overcome boredom- eating the same food regularly can become boring, leading you to steer away form your goal and can lead you to overeat.

5. Start your shopping from the fruit and vegetable aisle, it will help you buy healthy food and you will be less likely to buy 'binge' food. Better still; why not try buying your fresh food from local farmers or market? The food will be much fresher therefore more nutritious.

6. Using frozen vegetables are a great alternative to using fresh varieties. They can contain as much nutritional value and they are very convenient to use.

7.Check out the food labels- avoid food containing the words hydrogenated/ partially hydrogenated - they are high in saturated fats. Opt for food containing polyunsaturated fats. Also, try to avoid processed foods- they are convenient but also jam packed with fat, salt/sugar and other chemicals. A lot of their nutritional value is lost when they are processed and canned.
