There are so many facts connected with losing weight. No matter how much we would like to shed those unwanted pounds, we must accept that there is no miracle formula that will make you lose weight overnight. Here are some facts to think about when losing weight...

1. Your body responds best when you make gradual changes, instead of putting yourself under pressure to lose weight which can actually have the reverse effect and ultimalely, you end up feeling like a failure.

2. A healthy body will vary on each individual- what works for someone else may not work for you. Try using a 'holistic' approach to your lifestyle instead of focusing on weight loss alone. Looking at the whole picture can determine successful weight loss.

3. Evaluate your food choices- be aware that what you eat will influence your weight.

4. We all get cravings for food and when we give into them it can undo all our weight loss efforts. Cravings are merely habits that we have formed when we feel stressed or depressed. To overcome cravings and ward off hunger, it is important to eat frequently throughout the day. This keeps your energy levels up and can eliminate cravings for sugary and starchy food.

5. Cut down, don't cut out. Natural weight loss does not mean you should eat
less- you just have to learn to eat differently. Completey cutting out certain food from your diet can have a negative impact on your nutrient intake; it may mean that you could be losing vital vitamins and nutrients you need to stay healthy.

6. Sleep deprivation can affect weight loss. Studies suggest that people who don't get the recomended daily amount of 8 hours sleep struggle to lose weight. Lack of sleep results in less energy to do your regular daily activities and therefore don't burn off energy effectively.

7. Emotional stress can have us reaching out for our favourite comfort food.
There are many contributing factors to stress such as boredom, work related stress and depression. To banish the blues, the key is to keep busy; go for a walk or take the kids to the park, find a new hobby, or even join a dance class!

8.Think of all the positive benefits that losing weight naturally will have to your health, appearance and the quality of your lifestyle.

9. Having an incentive can help you keep motivated. So once you start to lose weight, why not indulge yourself with pamper session, or say to yourself, I'm going to buy a new outfit when I lose 10lb's. Giving yourself an incentive to do something can have a really positive outcome when it comes to losing weight.

10. Don't give up- just because you have a day when you have that burger or chocolate cake doesn't mean you have failed. It's ok to have those treats now and then, just do everything in moderation!
